Denmark: Dragsbaek malting plants have been sold to Fuglsang family
Dragsbaek malting plants were sold to the family Fuglsang, according to press communication.
In such a way Dragsbaek will integrate into the group Sophus Fuglsang Export Maltfabrik A/S- a group run by the family Fuglsang in the 5th generation with the headquarter in Haderslev since 1865.
Dragsbaek Maltfabrik A/S, which was founded in 1873, was owned by the same family for 6 generations. Originally, the Company started as a brewery with its own malting facility. In 1920 however, the brewing ceased and all efforts were put into malt production. Up to 1947 the production was sold domestically only. Since then the capacity has gradually been increased and today it amounts to 110,000 tonnes of malt of Pilsen and Munich type. While increasing its production, the Company has built up a considerable export to a large number of countries all over the world. Today the export share has been of about 75%.
The Dragsbaek’s chairman of the board, Fritz Foged Nielsen has communicated that the decision to sell the plant, matured since longer time. One would have wanted to disengage from the daily running of the plant. The fact that the director Vagn Nielsen wished also, within few years to leave the company contributed to this decision.
The chairman added also that Dragsbaek malting plant is today a modern and well run enterprise, with a good reputation by customers. The positive development has been owed to the work of the preceding generations as well as to the professionalism of Vagn Nielsen during the last 20 years.
Claes Fuglsang from the acquiring party has added to this: "Our examination of the enterprise in Thisted confirmed that we take over here a well led and modern malting plant, which produces very good malt. The plant’s equipment is also outstanding. Mette Geisler will continue the daily administration as a plant manager, and we look forward already to co-operate with the staff in Thisted ".
The malt production in both Thisted and Haderslev will continue with an unchanged strength. In Thisted however some personnel adjustments will be done.
